The purpose of SPW is to bring Stanford-affiliated, professional
women together to reconnect with Stanford for both professional
and personal development: to gain knowledge, to broaden horizons,
and to network. I have been a member of SPW since it was founded
back in the early 1980's and have always considered our diverse
membership, with a common Stanford bond, to the be key strength
of our organization. As both a Stanford graduate and a Stanford
parent, I understand the significance of the "Stanford
Family" and the importance of maintaining a relationship
with Stanford through active participation in alumni organizations.
A majority of our members are Stanford women graduates, both
undergraduate and graduate schools. Ages range from recent
graduates to senior alumnae. Other members are Stanford-affiliated
women: faculty & staff, current students, and mothers,
daughters, and spouses of alumni and students. All types of
professions and careers are represented including women who
are retired or taking time off from careers to raise their
children or care for aging parents. Review the SPW
Board and Member Profiles
section of this site to see a sampling of who we are.
SPW events fall into three main categories:
- Executive Speaker Series
- Regional Dinners - potlucks held in members' homes throughout
the Bay Area
- Social and Cultural Events
Many of our events are held at the beautiful Francis C. Arrillaga
Alumni Center, our "home away from home" on the
Stanford campus. Our events usually take place either in the
evening or on the weekend to accommodate working schedules.
Please take time to review our
events calendar from previous years to gain a better appreciation
of the type events we offer. The SPW
2008-09 calendar promises to be even more exciting and
varied. Our current calendar will be updated throughout the
year as additional events are arranged. Prospective members
are welcome to attend.
Thank you for your interest in SPW. I encourage you reconnect
with Stanford: attend our events and join our group. I look
forward to meeting you this year!
