ARTS AT STANFORD: RODIN + AFRICA TOUR AT CANTOR ARTS CENTER AND DINNER AT CANTOR'S COOL CAFE | details

Stanford Professional Women members and guests met up for an intimate tour and dinner at Cantor Arts Center. Rodin has long been a part of Stanford campus, and Cantor has brought a unique combination of his work together for the latest show. In addition to the Rodin artwork, the tours also included a visit to the extensive Africa exhibition.

FINDING YOUR PATH: HOW TO COMBINE ENTRPRENEURSHIP, CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH, MARRIAGE, AND MOTHERHOOD | details

Now a tenured professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Andrea Goldsmith didn't have the most traditional start to her electrical engineering career: Andrea spent a year singing in Greek bouzoukia prior to studying engineering. Dean of Stanford Engineering calls Andrea 'fearless' for her willingness to take on challenges that others won't. Professor Goldsmith has received numerous awards for her work, co-founded the wireless startup Quantenna Communications, co-authored several books and is the mother of an 11-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son. She believes that the best way to overcome bias and lack of representation is with success. In this talk, Professor Goldsmith shared her insights and experience on ways to achieve it.

USING SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY FOR GOOD | details

How do you connect meaning to social media to create impact? In this talk, "Dragonfly Effect" author Jennifer Aaker drew on social psychological insights to reveal why some ideas take off when they harness social media--and why others don't. Professor Aaker concluded with key insights on the psychology of happiness and meaning, sharing research that indicates the things that make us happy are often quite different from what we think.

INGENIOUS: LEVERS FOR UNLOCKING CREATIVITY | details

In this interactive talk, Dr. Tina Seelig discussed a collection of surprising, yet tangible things that SPW members and guests can do to boost creativity in individuals, groups, and organizations. Dr. Seelig is the executive director for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), the entrepreneurship center at Stanford University's School of Engineering, and teaches courses on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the department of Management Science and Engineering, and within the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford.
